Do we need more sleep?
Experts in the science of sleep suggest that adults require 7 to 9 hours
of sleep each night. Most adults in America today average 6.9 hours of sleep
weeknights and 7.5 hours on weekends.
Loss of work productivity, sick leave, and medical expenses cost Americans
each year $100 billion. At best there is a loss of productivity and at worst
lack of proper sleep can costs lives. It is estimated by National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration that approximately 100,000+ police reported
crashes are caused by drowsy drivers.
While many of these drowsy people may have a sleep disorder, only about one
out of eight are actually diagnosed. It is our belief that many people (like
us) are just too busy to get to bed on time and have too much on our minds
to fall asleep as soon a we can make it into bed. For those of you in that
category allow us to make a few suggestions.
Many people are toss and turn at night and have trouble getting a good
nights sleep. One factor may be that their bed is just old and
uncomfortable. If this is the a large source of a persons sleeping problem I
would suggest investing in a high quality bed. I find it interesting that
people will spend $30,000+ on an automobile that they may spend 1.5 hours a
day in, but when it comes to their bed, which they spend over 4 times the
amount of time in, they try to spend as little money as possible.
After investing in a high quality bed, one should invest in quality bedding.
A good bed set will not only look good, be more comfortable, but will also
last longer than cheaper bedding if proper care is followed. For example, a
cheap feather-down comforter will do more than keep one warm, it will most
likely make a person perspire at night. High-quality Goose Down Comforters
will insulate the body and allow the bodies natural moisture to evaporate
into the air. For more information on this topic see our Comforter Buying
Guide.
